Jennstagram and Other Updates

Life is good, y’all. Here are some updates in pictures.

I went home last weekend. It was so nice. I woke up Saturday morning to my Dad riding his bike in the living room. For like three hours. My old bedroom is slowly turning into his trophy room. Go Jeff, go! Smile Visit him over at http://grandmastertriandfly.wordpress.com/.

Brother – also my little triathlete family member. We were at Chuy’s where he ordered a…gulp…SALAD. Lawd, child. You are dedicated. Please step aside as I eat my weight in queso.

I went in Belk with Momma, and saw this display and gasped. I’m so ready for fall and BOOTS! Boots! and more BOOTS!

East TN was so pretty. It was a great weekend with great weather. On the left is somewhere along some road. I actually had no idea. I don’t remember. But the right is Mom and Dad’s backyard. So pretty.

Mom sent me back with lots of fresh produce from the garden and yummy homemade food. She treats me right.

I made this Rosemary, goat cheese, tomato sandwich with tomatoes from Cyndy and Jeff’s garden. Recipe here. Once I started eating it I realized it was like a huge piece of bruschetta. Fine by me! I had two.

Callie did cute things. As usual. Rog was out of town for six days and she took it upon herself to sleep in the bed with me while he was gone. She doesn’t do that when we’re both here. But she feels the need to protect the other one when one of us is gone. Or else she’s like “thank heavens, you fat bed hogs – some space for me, finally!” I prefer to think she’s protecting me.

She greeted me extra warmly while she was by herself all day without her daddy.

We talk and talk.

My super talented Daddy made me a standing desk. Sitting down all day is killing us, you know. I really like it so far and am surprised at how long I can stand. I  usually stand at least 5-6 of the 8 hours I’m at work. In between sitting down to eat, sitting down to take some phone calls or sitting in a meeting, I’m standing most of the rest of the time and I really do feel more energized and DEFINITELY more productive.

I got my hair chopped off. I mean, like whoa. It’s a bit shorter than I first imagined I’d get it, but I really, really like it. It’s lighter and cooler and has shape and volume again. My long hair got real dull, real fast.

I got to visit the sweetest little nephew (he’s not really – but he really is). He’s my best friend’s baby and I looooove that Brantley! Just look at him. I arrived at his house at just the right time, because he’d just woken up from his nap. He came groggily wandering out of his bedroom and saw me, opened his arms, ran to me and I scooped him up and gave him big sleepy kisses. Then, he pulled back, took it all in and realized I wasn’t his momma or aunt or nana. Ha. It’s JennWade! Surprise!

There’s my best girl. She’s pregnant again and having me a little girl, next! OMG I can’t WAIT!

IMG_2433

In other news, Rogers left me funny grocery lists. He’s a music man. No denying it.

IMG_2437

Callie and I had a lazy Sunday on the couch. With Daddy too.

This morning – Monday – I kicked this week in the rear by swimming 1200M and then eating this delicious, healthy smoothie. Take that, Monday!

I finished it with yoga and dinner at home with my man. See – life is good, people. Hope yours is, too.

XOXO,
Jenn

Here are some photo updates as of late.

Out at Peeler Park last week, planning for a Mud Run my organization is hosting in a few weeks. Should be fuuuun!

I made this recipe from Pioneer Woman and it was delicious. I wasn’t going to make the gravy to go with it, but I thought what the heck, I’ll try. I’ve never made gravy. OMG y’all. This is a new dangerous new skill to have. It was delish.

Got a little crazy with another scotch tape manicure. This one is a winner. Love it.

Tagged along to a show on Thursday night with Rogers. The band was from Knoxville (GBO) and were really good — and I got a chocolate dipped cone at 10 p.m. for my willingness to accompany him out to a show on a school night. He knows how to twist my arm.

We went to Tavern on Saturday night with some Junior Chamber friends. Rog finally got to try the Tavern burger. It was good — although not as good as I remember the first time I had it.

My Bulgarian beauty, Evelina.

Rog and I have a sweet little roomie, who is a friend of a friend, moving in for the month of August while she does a nursing rotation at Vanderbilt. So, I’ve been putting the finishing touches on the guest bedroom.

Have a great week — don’t let the Mondays get you down.

XOXO,
Jenn

Jennstagram

Here’s a little photo wrap-up of the week I fondly call, Jennstagram.

Me — driving back from K-town last Sunday. A little sad to be leaving the “country,” but ready to get home to my kitty baby and Rog! Who is this girl with long blondish hair, PS?

As you can see, Callie was STOKED to have me home. She could hardly contain herself.

While at home, I took a photo of this photo (yeah, technology!) of my Dad in his early days working at Y-12. Look at how cute he is! He appears to be about 15 years old, but he is not. Check out that sweet PC.

Momma and Daddy were wealthy with tomatoes from the garden and sent me back several. I’ve enjoyed one of these with lunch every day this week.

Rogers put in a new closet organizer in the hall closet. Lawd, we needed it. He knows the way to my heart is through organizational gestures.

I met my friend Alice at Taco Mamacita for a Tuesday night gab session and margarita indulgence. Pomegranate Margarita. Thank you may I have another. And I did.

Wednesday, when there was a  humidity of about 168 percent, by some sweet divine intervention the new food truck RetroSno was parked at our building. Kim and I both tried the Vanilla Toasted Coconut flavor “snoball” which was topped with coconut flakes and “cream,” aka sweetened condensed milk. Instead of cramming my sweaty face in the middle of it, which was what I really wanted to do in that heat, I ate it. Every bite of it.

My life is complete and I’ll be stalking this truck all over town, now. There are about 15 more flavors I’d like to try. So I guess my life isn’t that complete.

After 11 years with the Eclipse, I am finally car shopping and think I found “the one.” Mitzi the Mazda is currently en route from Georgia to Nashville to meet her new owner (me!)

A.) You’re welcome for getting you out of Georgia, Mitzi. B.) I hope we have a long, repair-free, life together. You have big wheels to fill.

More on the new whip later.

To celebrate my new ride, Rog and I went to Chili’s. Well, that and we were too lazy to cook after car shopping at 7 p.m. Plus, they have two for ones all day.

The guest room at the Flat got a sweet little makeover now that my townhouse furniture has officially moved in. Check it out! Sorry to all of you friends who have crashed on the air mattress over the years. We have a real guest bed now! Its first visitors are coming this weekend — all the way from Denmark! It’s a very cultured and worldly guest bedroom.

What’s the best part about work events besides free food and wine? Flowers! Sure, I’ll take those off your hands.

What’s the best part about coming home exhausted from a work event? Boyfriend feels sorry for you and makes dinner, rubs your feet and puts a wine glass in your hand. He’s a gentleman and a keeper, that one.

See you after the weekend, Jennstagramers! Have a good one.

XOXO,
Jenn
